THE COVER: [Artist THORNTON UTZ] What a lucky young man. Here, at long last, is a railroad coach so unpopulated that he can sit alone and have nobody yakking at him as he earnestly goes about his business. See how he slowly savors the selection of a double-empty. Shall it be on the shady side or will the sun give better light for seeing what he wants to see? Will not the middle of the car joggle less and be easier on the eyes? How about turning over a pair of seats and making a private compartment, for utmost concentration? But no, as THORNTON UTZ depicts, life is sadly complex. The poor fellow finds someone occupying part of the only location altogether suited to the work he has in mind. Ah, well, after restudying the face of the someone, the opinion persists as above: what a lucky young man!
