THIS MONTH'S COVER: From idea to sketch to finished creation, Réalités shows the evolution of an hautecouture model. The pensive young man is GUY LAROCHE, unknown two years ago, today one of the mostpowerful of those delightful dictators whom fashionable women the world over follow with barely amurmur. Projected on the screen behind him is the original sketch for No. 272 of his spring collection.

And between the two stands Dorothée, one of the mannequins of the house of Laroche, wearing thatsame No. 272, translated from outline to reality. This dress, and its designer, can stand as the symbols ofParis fashion in 1958. The keynote is youth. The skirt is short --shorter than it has been for ten years--thelines are easy, but the shapelessness of the sack-dress is gone. There is an artlessness in this look, atouch of the ingenue, which has quickly earned it the name "baby doll" or just "baby" instead of the moreformal "trapeze line.'' To give its readers an overall picture of this look, Réalités presents on page 36 thesixteen dresses chosen by its fashion award jury as the most elegant and eloquent expressions of the newlook of the new spring.
